Zoom announces new features for January 2022

Zoom announced a variety of exciting updates this January in its continued effort to streamline communication and improve the hybrid work experience. Here are some of the new features announced this month:

Enable language interpretation by default

Admins and Zoom Account owners that prefer to include interpreters in their meetings or their webinars can enable the language interpretation feature by default when scheduling their meetings to create a seamless experience for all attendees.

Add video to the waiting rooms

Hosts of the meeting can now add a video when setting up the Waiting Room for their meeting in the web portal. Attendees in the waiting room are able to view the video while they wait to be let into the meeting. This feature requires an updated Zoom client version and is available for paid accounts.

Reset virtual backgrounds to default after each meeting

Admins can now set a default virtual background that will automatically reset at the beginning of each meeting in an effort to automate backgrounds and prevent sensitive information from being shared on them.

Support for Smart Gallery on Mac and Windows

Zoom Rooms Smart Gallery view displays multiple video feeds from one single conference room, enabling the Zoom Room camera to separate a room of participants and display these people in their own gallery. This can greatly improve face to face connection with remote attendees. Zoom now offers this option on both Mac and Windows and any certified USB camera.

Updated look and feel for Zoom Room Controllers

With the latest update of 5.9+, Zoom released a new user interface for Zoom Rooms Controllers that is now consistent with the look and feel of the rest of Zoom Room products.

Zoom Events – Expo

Expo was designed to create more opportunities for live networking among attendees, speakers, and sponsors. Zoom has created a virtual expo floor that enables attendees to freely move around the space, networking with individuals through one on one chat and joining other attendees in Expo booths for topic-based discussions.

Zoom describes Expo as a solution for:

  • Hosts looking to elevate the virtual experience
  • Attendee networking and interaction
  • Increasing sponsor engagement
  • Virtual and hybrid events

We love to see partners like Zoom continuing to innovate and create an improved experience for anyone working remote or on-site.
