Whether you’re using Zoom Chat or participating in a Zoom meeting, the Zoom desktop client app makes utilizing all the Zoom features a more efficient experience. It’s benefits exceed past just efficiency though. Utilizing their standard 256-bit AES-GCM encryption, the Zoom desktop app also creates a more secure experience. Here are 5 ways using the Zoom app ensures your UCC is secure.
- Authenticated Login
Zoom users are able to log into the desktop client using a single sign-on (SSO) feature that creates a secure and quick login process. Additionally, two-factor authentication (2FA) can be utilized to add extra security to the process. Both of these processes require initial setup from your organization’s Admin and will ensure users initiate their Zoom experience smoothly and securely.
- Secure Meeting Scheduling
Scheduling a meeting is simple and intuitive within the Zoom desktop app. Additionally, you can adjust meeting settings to increase security. Here are some brief instructions from Zoom directly:
“Head to “Home” in the top navigation of the Zoom client and click “Schedule.” Then, a pop-up will emerge that enables you to tailor the meeting settings to your individual needs. There’s an entire “Security” section included in this pop-up, where you can select from options like, “Only authenticated users can join” and “Waiting Room” to add on helpful layers of protection.

You can also select your preferred encryption for the meeting, choosing from enhanced encryption or our end-to-end encryption (E2EE) option. Both options use our standard 256-bit AES-GCM encryption, with the difference being where the encryption keys are stored. With E2EE enabled, the cryptographic keys are known only to the devices of the meeting participants. Enabling E2EE for meetings disables certain features and requires all meeting participants to join from the Zoom desktop client, mobile app, or Zoom Rooms.”
- Automatic Updates
Zoom recently released their automatic update feature to streamline the software update and bug patching process. When enabled, this feature will automatically send updates to the Zoom software and can be set by your organization’s Admin.
- Advanced encryption for chat
Zoom’s advanced chat encryption enables secure communication enabling only the intended recipient to read the secured message. This feature requires enabling by your Admin and users can deploy it when communicating about anything private or sensitive in a one to one or group chat. According to Zoom, “When advanced chat encryption is enabled, data at rest is encrypted by encryption keys generated and operated on chat participants’ devices. Chat data in transit, however, is encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption.”
- Managing Blocked accounts
Zoom enables users to block other users if they’re unknown or are unwanted within the organization’s communications. To block a user, simply click the options arrow by the user’s name, from the drop-down menu you’re provided the option to block the user. All users who have been blocked will show up in Settings under Chat where you can manage these users and unblock them if desired.
